Today I'm featuring a lovely Israeli progressive rock band called Teliof. I bought their album Is It? some time ago, on a whim, not knowing too much how they sounded like or who the lineup was. But the snippets I heard on their Myspace were enough to push me towards buying the album.

Try this one out - Iszil from Chile

A young Chilean musician who works under the moniker Iszil (whether it's also his name, I don't know), has posted on Prog Archives about his newly released album, Back To The Seed.

I gave it a listen and I must say, I quite like the music. The vocals are, to me, the weak point here, though not bad as to ruin the music (they remind me a bit of Lobster Newberg's singer). There is "classic symphonic prog" in there, melodic but not devoid of heaviness and roughness (a good thing).

He says about himself: "Highly influenced by Rush, Yes, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson, Dream Theater, etc - you will get the idea listening to (at leaste) the demo - I've developed my own sound incorporating different styles and "symphonicity" to my art."

Time mirror has been released recently but I didn't notice too much buzz about it. Perhaps due to it not being promoted too much and/or being easily available for purchase. Or I'm looking in the wrong places.

Sounds Heard Today - March 13th, 2011: Indukti - S.U.S.A.R.

I use to this type of post a lot when I started the blog in September last year (2010) but have since stopped. I'm resurrecting this in favour of a "good old album" I re-visited today, one which I used to listen to a lot when it came out (2004) and for a year or so afterwards.

Review: Pictorial Wand - Face of Our Fathers (2009, Unicorn Digital)

One man, Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Mattis Sørum, is behind this project started in 2003, bringing to his aid (much like Ayreon) musicians and vocalists (four on this album) to play and sing on his albums. Mattis plays the synths, organ and guitars on the albums.

Nathan Mahl - Exodus (2008, Unicorn Digital)

This is a review I wrote in 2009 for Nathan Mahl's concept album about the Exodus of Bnei-Israel from Egypt, led by Moses.

Not having heard a single note from this band, despite knowing of them and reading about them and reviews of their previous albums, I come to this 2008 release of theirs without the burden or bliss of expectation or knowing what to expect of this release.

Recommendation: Acollective (prog-rock, Israel)

Recommendation: The Laze

I know nothing about this group except that I heard about them from the threads they opened on Prog Archives and Progressive Ears in which they said their 2009 album, Spacetime Fabric Conditioner, is available on their Bandcamp.

This is extremely good eclectic progressive rock!

Recommendation: Oberon's Parabola (Aaron Parks)

I came across this drummer called Aaron Parks through a project called Oberon's Parabola, but apparently that's not the only group he's in, as you can see here.
